January Show

Towards The Point? Is a monthly arts & culture review programme for 93.7 Express FM, written & presented by James Sandy, Dave Allen and Simon Mobbs. The show aims to dig out weird and wonderful cultural offerings from in and around Portsmouth. It sets out to provide listeners with a flickering compass for the stormy tides of "the arts". We take in a range of topics from art, film, literature, music, TV & radio and also give you a round-up of local events and activities.

1963 - An Extraordinary Year

1963 was one of those very special years in popular culture, politics and weather: - It snowed LOTS in Pompey, The first local appearances by the Beatles and the Stones, Portsmouth FC were  back in (old) 2nd Division, The Profumo/Keeler scandal, first ever anywhere one day competitive cricket matches between first-class sides started in England, Kennedy was shot, Larkin's famous poem about the start of sexual intercourse, the last of the British new wave films (This Sporting Life) ...
